Redmayne Bentley appoints first independent Chair of its Main Board

Ian Cordwell has been appointed as the first independent Chair of Redmayne Bentley’s Main Board.

Ian joined the award-winning investment and wealth management firm’s Main Board as a Non-Executive Director (NED) in 2020. Since then, he has been Chair of the firm’s Audit Committee and a member of the Risk Oversight Committee. He has also played a key role in developing the firm’s strategic vision and his extensive knowledge and experience will help the firm shape its future growth ambitions.

He replaces David Loudon, who has been with the firm for over 30 years in roles including Joint Chief Executive. David will continue to work in the business taking on a new role as a NED and he will remain a member of the Main Board and the Audit, Risk and Governance committees.

David said: “We have just entered our 150th year since our Founder, John Redmayne, started Redmayne & Co as a one-man business in Leeds. The strong values John Redmayne started with in 1875 - integrity and personal service to clients - remain core to us today.

“Having an independent non-executive Chair is a first for us, and an important step in our development and maturity as a nationally respected Financial Conduct Authority-regulated firm. I look forward to supporting Ian as he leads the firm’s continued growth and development.”

Ian added: “I am excited by the responsibility of leading the firm as we build the foundations for the next 150 years. The regulatory landscape is very supportive of firms, like Redmayne Bentley, which are focused on delivering good customer outcomes with a robust and reliable infrastructure to support this ambition.”

Ian joined the Board of Redmayne Bentley following a 30-year career in retail financial services. A Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, he has held a number of diverse roles during his career, including Managing Director at LV=, Finance Director at Marks & Spencer Financial Services, Chief Investment Officer at Police Mutual and a NED and Audit Committee Chair for National Pharmacy Association Insurance.

Ian is married with three adult children and a grandson and lives in Dorset. He becomes the first independent chair of the company, with no ownership interest in the firm.

Redmayne Bentley prides itself on delivering a personal service for private clients, trusts and charities. It offers traditional Stockbroking, an online Managed Portfolio Service (MPS), truly bespoke Investment Management and Financial Planning.
