Chewy shares surge as Roaring Kitty takes 6.6% stake

(Sharecast News) - Chewy shares surged in pre-market trade on Monday after it emerged that meme stock trader Roaring Kitty has taken a 6.6% stake in the company. According to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Roaring Kitty - real name Keith Gill - bought just over 9 million shares in the online pet food retailer.

Gill was largely credited with spearheading the GameStop frenzy of 2021.

The SEC document included a section which read "check the appropriate box to designate whether you are a cat". This was followed by two check boxes, one reading "I am a cat" and the other reading "I am not a cat", which was checked.

At 1245 BST, Chewy shares were up 17% at $32 in pre-market trade.
