Sajid Javid reportedly in talks to join Shein ahead of London IPO

(Sharecast News) - Singapore-based fast fashion retailer Shein has reportedly approached the former chancellor Sajid Javid about joining the company ahead of its rumoured listing on the London Stock Exchange. Shein has hit headlines in recent weeks on reports that it was looking to float in London after failing to get the approval from US regulators to list in New York.

It is thought that an initial public offering in London could value the company at more than £50bn.

According to Sky News on Monday, Javid is among a "number of senior City figures" who have been approached and had discussions with Shein's executive chair Donald Tang. Former BBC Trust chair Rona Fairhead was also on the list of candidates.

It is thought that Javid, if appointed, would join the company as an adviser or member of the board.

The Bromsgrove MP, who served as chancellor under Boris Johnson between 2019 and 2020, announced in late-2022 that he would not stand for re-election this autumn.
