Week ahead: US inflation data, Fedspeak in focus

(Sharecast News) - All eyes over the coming week will be on the latest inflation readings out of the US and their likely impact on financial markets on either side of the Atlantic.

First out will be producer price figures for the month of April, on Tuesday, followed by consumer price data the next day.

Consensus is for a dip in the annual rate of increase for headline consumer prices from 3.5% in March to 3.4% for April.

Core CPI gains meanwhile are seen slowing, from 3.8% to 3.6%.

Readings on US April retail sales and the Philly Fed's factory index, on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively. will also be closely monitored.

That will also be the case with a string of Fed speakers who are scheduled to take the podium on various days across the week, including Fed chair Powell himself on Tuesday.

On home shores, Tuesday will bring with it the March employment report.

In Asia, Friday will see a raft of key activity indicators come out in the People's Republic of China.
