Week ahead: UK, US inflation numbers in focus

(Sharecast News) - Financial markets' focus over the coming week will be on consumer price data for the month of January due out in the U.S. and U.K.. Come Tuesday, the former are expected to show that headline CPI inflation in America slowed from a 3.4% pace for December to 3.0% in January.

Also of key importance in the States will be producer price figures scheduled to be published on Friday, alongside survey data on consumer confidence in early February.

That will be on top of a raft of other U.S. economic indicators that are set for release on Thursday, including the monthly retail sales report.

CPI data in the U.K. will be forthcoming on Wednesday, preceded by the latest monthly employment report the day before, a reading on gross domestic product growth in December on Thursday and retail sales figures on Friday.

In the euro area meanwhile, the ZEW Institute's closely-followed index of economic expectations for Germany in February is expected on Tuesday.

A preliminary estimate for fourth quarter GDP growth in the single currency bloc will follow on Wednesday.
