Thursday preview: US CPI, UK home prices

(Sharecast News) - All eyes on Thursday would be on the latest reading for US consumer prices covering the month of July. Consensus was for a slight pick-up in the annual rate of increase in the Consumer Price Index from June's 3.0% clip to 3.3% now that so-called negative base effects had run their course.

The report was scheduled to be published at 1330 BST.

The weekly unemployment claims figures that were also due out would be watched as well, as investors continued to keep close tabs on anything related to the country's jobs market.

Later in the session, at 2000 BST Atlanta Fed chief, Raphael Bostic, was due to deliver a speech, followed by his peer at the Philly Fed, Patrick Harker, at 2115 BST.

On home shores, overnight the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors will publish its House Price Balance for the month of July.

Monthly Chinese money supply growth data were also anticipated.
