US durable goods orders surge in June, driven by Boeing

(Sharecast News) - Orders for goods made to last for more than three years surged last month, driven by orders for civilian jets. According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, in seasonally adjusted term durable goods orders jumped at a month-on-month pace of 4.7% to reach $302.5bn.

Economists polled by Dow Jones Newswires had forecast a rise of 1.5%.

The previous month's increase in total durable goods orders was revised up by two tenths of a percentage point to 2.0%.

Nevertheless, excluding the transportation sector, orders were up by 0.6% on the month.

Transportation orders climbed by 12.1% to 115.3bn, driven by a 69.4% rise in those for civilian aircraft and parts to $37.13bn.

Capital goods orders excluding defence and aircraft were up by 0.2% to $74.1bn.
